I was searching to see if anyone had done a Zeroize interface for
Java and found a very interesting page
http://www.maritime.org/ecm2.htm on the US military's primary cipher
machine from World War II, the ECM Mark II, aka CSP-989 aka SIGABA.
(It turns out the term "zeroize" goes back to the electromechanical
era and they have a Java version of the ECM-II.)

This page is unusual for the depth of supporting material it
includes, wheel coding lists for the M-94 "Jefferson Wheel" cipher,
detailed emergency procedures to use when your ECM-II has been
compromised, explanations of NSA nomenclature system for
cryptographic equipment, etc.

Worth a visit.
