I believe it was April Gelaspie (sp?), then ambassador to Iraq. One the
interesting things was that they sent a woman ambasador (and she didn't
seem much like a Jeanne Kirkpatrick type) to Iraq. She's going to face
down Saddam? That seemed a little wierd to me. However, as I recall, the
actual exchange was not that clear as to what Saddam's intentions were
or what our response might be. It might be interesting to find that
transcript, I know that it was released.
