Exactly. I was initially diagnosed in early 1983, when 'AIDS' was just
becoming big news...and the more I read up regarding hypothyroidism in
general, and Hashimoto's thyroiditis in particular, the more I kept
running across the term 'an acquired deficiency effecting the immune
system'...the same terminology that was then cropping up regarding
AIDS....
Hashimoto's is particularly bad, as it is the thyroid turning against
itself, thinking it is a foreign invader to be destroyed, and so it sends
out signals to trigger the leukocytes to attack the thyroid's own tissue
as if the tissue was a virus...
I've developed any number of allergies since then, again the thyroid
triggering the immune system to react to an innocuous substance as if it
were an infection...
