SERB UNDERDOGS LAUGH AT NATO BULLIES

(CNNS, 04/12/99) -- Osama bin Laden, reputed terrorist
mastermind, dwells now in Albania with 500 Mujahidin killers.
"The Islamic fundamentalists use Albania as a spring board for
sending terrorists to Kosovo-Metohia, to kill people and
jeopardize the territorial integrity and sovereignty of
Yugoslavia. All this has been done in front of the whole world,
under the NATO auspices." [1]
Open aggression "on Yugoslavia from Albanian territory [has] been
under way for three days running... the areas of the Morina and
Kosare Yugoslav border posts [are] targets of artillery fire from
Albanian territory." Assisting the aggression are bin Laden and
his Mujahidin mercenaries. [2]
"Behind the scenes, German civil and military intelligence
services have been secretly training and equipping the Kosovo
Liberation Army (KLA) rebels since 1996." [3]
The Pentagon, as it did during the Persian Gulf War, tightly
controls all information. "The limits resemble or are even
tighter than those during the Gulf War, which far exceeded those
that existed during the Vietnam War." [4] ("The fullest modern
codex of restrictions of the work of war correspondents is the
Code of Conduct of Accredited Correspondents issued by the U.S.
Allied Supreme Command during the war against Iraq on Jan. 14,
1991. The work of the war correspondents was practically reduced
to reporting the official statements of the command, with a
strictly specific long list of prohibited topics and actions for
controlling each report, on pains of severe sanctions..." [5])
NATO, the "Newest American Terrorist Organization," issues an
ultimatum to Yugoslavia: "NATO to Serbs: 'give us six hours of
your TV program or we shall destroy you,'" headlines the Italian
newspaper, *Liberatione*. [6] Says Indro Montaneli, dean of
Italian journalism: "I consider the attempt of the West to
impose an information ultimatum to Serbs as one of the greatest
nonsenses which could be made." [7] (NATO has subsequently
backed down from its threat to bomb Serb TV transmitters.)
Despite rigid press censorship which effectively prevents the
American people from hearing the Serb's point of view, unsettling
information continues to leak into the U.S., from abroad. The
NATO has "fired a highly destructive missile at a densely
populated residential area of Novi Sad..." [8] In a Pristina
hospital, Greek doctors are "horrified" at the human carnage
caused by NATO bombs: "...most of the patients were civilians
and children of whom the largest number were the ethnic
Albanians, Lacis Papaionau, one of the two doctors stated after
arriving in Skopje." [9] Workers at a car factory, there as
human shields in the hope of protecting their livelihoods,
discover that NATO bloodlust has gone wild. The NATO pilots
*knew* there were civilians in the factory, and did not care.
Their bombs severely injured 126 of the auto workers. [10] A
village school in Bogutovac, there since 1938, has been
demolished by six NATO missiles. "What kind of men are they?
What kind of the military and strategic target was the village
school in Bogutovac?" Did SIX missiles ALL get "seduced"
off-target? [11]
In Rome, Italy, on April 10, 1999, 100,000 people marched in
protest. Says Father Jean-Marie Benjamin, a priest and secretary
general of the St. Angels Foundation of Assisi: "The people have
the right to know what NATO is dropping in the heart of Europe
and that the United Nations has been turned into an instrument of
embargoes, bombings and counting the bodies." [12]
But the spirits and the hopes of the good Serbian people remain
high. They are even maintaining a good sense of humor, laughing
at the Yuppie scum who invade their land. Funk music plays in
Belgrade nightclubs. "The Funkateers obviously cannot be
stopped." [13] "Take care, and may the funk be with you always!"
exclaims the popular DJ Peppe. [14] During the day, games of
chess help pass the time. On April 10th, an enormous
simultaneous chess game, "Mate Upon The War," took place in
Belgrade. "1121 chessboards were lined along the main promenade,
1.5km long. The number of chessboards represents years of
Belgrade having its name." [15] And the inventive Serbs have
created the new internationally recognized "Target" symbol.
"Something of a Serbian equivalent of the peace sign worn by
American peace demonstrators in the 1960s, it reflects widespread
anger and bewilderment over the bombing." [16]
