With 700 wives and 300 concubines, this insatiable sorcerer and hero to all Freemasons was said to have commanded an army of demons and also built a temple to a horned goddess of sex as well one to Baalzebub himself....

Who Was King Solomon?

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NeuschwabenlandTimes/message/263

The legendary king of Israel, King David's son and successor, which reign became known as Israel’s golden age. His date of birth is placed between 975 and 970 BC, and his death between 928 and 922 BC.

Building on David’s achievements, Solomon instituted a proficient centralized government, with a professional army and an advanced trade network. Above all, he poured attention on Jerusalem, raising superb public buildings and palaces, and carrying out his father’s plan to construct a Temple for the Lord, worthy to house the Ark of the Covenant. On surrounding hills, Solomon also built temples to the Caanaite/Phoneician god Baal and Goddes Astarte.

A form of Ba'al-worship prevailing in Israel (Judges viii. 33). The term "Ba'al" is shown by the equivalent "El-berith" (Judges ix. 46, R. V.) to mean "the God of the Covenant. The idol Baalberith, which the pagan Hebrews worshiped after the death of Gideon, was identical, according to the Rabbis, with Baal-zebub, "the ba'al of flies," the god of Ekron (II Kings i. 2). He was worshiped in the shape of a fly; and so addicted were the pagan Hebrews to his cult (thus runs the tradition) that they would carry an image of him in their pockets, producing it, and kissing it from time to time. Baal-zebub is called Baal-berith because such worshippers might be said to make a covenant (Hebr. "Berit") of devotion with the idol, being unwilling to part with it for a single moment (Shab. 83b; comp. also Sanh. 63b). According to another conception, Baal-berith was an obscene article of idolatrous worship, possibly a simulacrum priapi (Yer. Shab. ix. 11d; 'Ab. Zarah iii. 43a).

Astarte is the Phoenician name of the primitive Semitic mother-goddess, out of which the most important of the Semitic deities were developed. She was known in Arabia as "Athtar," and in Babylonia as "Ishtar." Her name appears in the Old Testament (I Kings xi. 5; II Kings xxiii. 13) as "Ashtoreth," a distortion of "Ashtart," made after the analogy of "Bosheth" (compare Jastrow, in "Jour. Bibl. Lit." xiii. 28, note). Solomon is said to have built a high place to her near Jerusalem, which was removed during Josiah's reform (I Kings xi. 5, 33; II Kings xxiii. 12). Astarte is called in these passages an "abomination".

"The horned" goddess Astarte, wherever worshiped, was considered a goddess of fertility and sexual "love". A trace of this among the Hebrews appears in Deut. vii. 13, xxviii. 4, 18, where the lambs are called the "ashtarot" of the flock. It is usually assumed that Astarte Worship was always a foreign cult among the Hebrews. In North Africa, she was known as Tanith (see Barton, "Semitic Origins," p. 253, note 6), to which is frequently attached the epithet "Face of Baal," showing that she was often regarded as sub-ordinate to that god. She was also called Dido (Love), and was, as Augustine says ("De Civitate Dei," ii. 4), worshiped with obscene rites (compare "Heb." x. 48-53).

Solomon had about 700 wives and 300 concubines. By loving so many foreign women and allowing them to continue their own forms of worship corrupting the Holy City with their exotic rituals and gods, Solomon not only tolerated this paganism but also participated in it himself. Some even say that he became a skilled sorcerer. According to one of the many legends about him, Solomon used pagan magic to imprison 72 rebellious evil kings into a brass vessel, throwing it then into a deep lake, where they were supposed to stay until the end of time. In an attempt to find great treasure, the Babylonians rescued the vessel and broke it open, allowing the demons to escape. These devils became known as the 72 spirits of Solomon.

The Apocalypse of Adam 7: 13-16 makes reference to Solomon commanding an army of demons in a list of 13 false explanations for the origin of the redeemer figure called the Photor. (150 CE)

"The fourth kingdom says of him that he came from a virgin. [...] Solomon sought her, he and Phersalo and Sauel and his armies, which had been sent out. Solomon himself sent his army of demons to seek out the virgin.

The Testament of Truth (IX,3) in the Nag Hammadi Codex also talks of Solomon's commanding of demons to build his temple (2nd-3rd cent. CE):

"They are wicked in their behavior! Some of them fall away to the worship of idols. Others have demons dwelling with them, as did David the king. He is the one who laid the foundation of Jerusalem; and his son Solomon, whom he begat in adultery, is the one who built Jerusalem by means of the demons, because he received power.
The Epistle to Rehoboam (EpReh) contains a passage subtitled “Concerning Hygromancy” in which Solomon instructs his son, Rehoboam, on how to use divination and astrology to secure sexual gratification, health, power, and wealth. The basis of Solomon’s magic lies in a precise understanding of astrology and cosmology. Solomon instructs Rehoboam on which planet rules each day of the week and which good and evil spirits are associated with each hour of the day. Once Rehoboam learns which forces are in control at any time, he can utilize their energies through magical ritual and prayer. This is prefaced by strict monotheistic prayers to God to grant the power to control these celestial forces.

In the Nag Hammadi corpus, the Second Treatise of the Great Seth mocks Solomon:

“Solomon was a laughingstock, since he thought that he was Christ, having become vain through the Hebdomad” Treat. Seth 63:11-15
