-Caveat Lector-

Response to Kevin Coogan and
Dave Emory re Adam Parfrey

On May 4, 2000, Dave Emory, the featured researcher on Roy Tuckman's
"Something's Happening," "warned" his listeners, especially students of the
late Mae Brussell, to bear in mind that any books sold by Feral House are
tainted by the publisher's association with one Michael Moynihan, a figure
on the Black Metal fringe.

Excuse me, but If Random House publishes a book by Henry Kissinger, should
Kurt Vonnegut or John Updike, publishing under the same imprint, be
denounced for Cambodian war crimes? Since my own books are published by
Feral House, Dave's "warning" refers to me. But then, I am an anti-fascist
researcher, too. And Feral House, if Emory had bothered to check, has
released a number of quality books on fascist conspiracies when most
publishers are not so inclined to offend the fascist establishment. Feral
House has issued a book on FBI snitches by Jim Redden (offered as a KPFK
fund-raising gift), and an acclaimed biography of Jack Parsons, the
notorious rocket scientist and devil worshipper. Recently, Parfrey
republished an anti-war classic by Smedley Butler. Feral House also offers
books on CIA scandals (my own books), the "Nazi International," the Oklahoma
City bombing and the dark side of the drug industry. Brussell Sprouts
everywhere should be "warned" away from these authors, as well, according to
Emory's tortured logic.

His source on the controversial proprietor of Feral House was author Kevin
Coogan, who has also taken aim at "the anti-American mentality of the left"
... recalling the sick rhetoric of David Horowitz, who has taken a liking to
Coogan's frothy excoriations of the left and posts them on his web page,
FrontPageMag. Take a look if you have a strong stomach.

Coogan's book, the Yockey bio, Dreamer of the Day, is touted by Dave Emory
for its meticulous research. Coogan may have forgotten to inform Emory, and
the listening audience of "Something's Happening," that much of the research
material for Dreamer of the Day was given to Coogan by ... the owner of
Feral House. The credit for all that "brilliant" research should actually go
to Parfrey, not Coogan.

Adam Parfrey is not a fascist, as Dave Emory suggested on the air. He is a
bit of an eccentric, drawn to social and political extremes that other
publishers will not touch. Anyone who knows Parfrey at all well will say the
same. True enough, he once published a book by Moynihan. Like some other
Feral House books, it was anti-social, and I agree that Moynihan is tainted
himself by his public statements. But Moynihan's beliefs are not a
reflection on other books published by Feral House, books that should be
considered on their own merits. And the black metal book is not as
objectionable as those who haven't read it might assume, although Coogan
seems to think that because Parfrey published it, he must be a fascist,
proctor ergo sum. Coogan may be, to judge by his "red-baiting" if the IAC
and ANSWER, a position condemned by the National Lawyers Guild. But Parfrey?
No, not exactly Parfrey is Jewish, the son of a concentration camp internee
who, due to his substandard diet, contracted sugar diabetes. Adam inherited
the illness. He has no affection for Nazis because they have made him sick,
and it is likely his life will be shortened as a result.

Lighten up, Dave Emory. Retract those fangs, realize the true enemy may be
closer than you think. It isn't Adam Parfrey. He has never harmed you in any
way. But take a look at David Horowitz's web site and you may find food for
thought and grounds for further research.
