-> SNETNEWS Mailing List GUNS, BOMBS & THE TRENCHCOAT MAFIA: Don't You Know Me? I'm Your Native Son... by Carl Alexander So, we've carefully stripped the violence from all the Saturday morning cartoons, established Parental Guidance warnings on TV and at the movies & declared 'gun-free zones' around all our public schools - Good morning, Littleton, Colorado! How are ya? Fifteen dead & two dozen wounded. Guns, bombs, and an obscure clique called the Trenchcoat Mafia... isn't it about time we started to define THE PROBLEM, before we rush into a new set of phoney solutions? "Our children must learn to resolve their conflicts with words, not guns." Bill Clinton, April 20, 1999 And where will they learn that lesson, Mr. President? From your hypocritical lips? Drive the lesson home... violence is an ACCEPTABLE means to accomplish your goal. Go drop another bomb on innocent men, women & children in Yugoslavia or Iraq, why don'tcha? ...our CHILDREN must learn!?! Our children learn from what we DO, not by empty words we merely mouth at them. And make no mistake - those defiant misfits with murder in their hearts & long black coats were our children, too. No matter how we may seek to demonize them after the carnage is done, to marginalize and stigmatize their horror, to insulate ourselves from their actions... they are also OUR CHILDREN. They're learning, alright... and they're getting much better at it. They're learning to stockpile, to plan, and to execute mass murder. They're becoming professional at it... after all, isn't that The American Way? We mass-produce everything in this country, from sportcars to abortion to the machinery of war... consumption is our God. Why should it come as any surprise when our children begin to consume THEMSELVES, or that they do it en masse? Ours is a culture of violence, but that violence cannot be sufficiently measured by counting the number of household guns we keep. We can limit, even ban those weapons completely, but the violence will continue. For the fault lies not within any inanimate objects we possess, but within our own selves. We are a nation of hypocrites. We wail and gnash our teeth as these tragedies continue to unfold, but we are not willing to examine the root causes of what brings them forth. To do so would mean that we must look at who we are & how we live - and we are not willing to change OURSELVES, or our own behavior. So we will go on paying lip-service to the sacredness of human life, while we murder human babies by the hundreds of thousands in this country, each year... we will go on preaching peace, while we continue to make war on anyone who opposes our 'national interest'... we will go on substituting license for Liberty, while electing moral degenerates as our highest representatives. We will go on enacting inane laws to impose dress codes at public schools & place metal detectors at every schoolhouse door & armed guards in every hallway... we will go on to restrict information placed on the Internet & in public libraries & at publishing houses across the nation... we will go on to make it illegal for any citizen to own a gun. And we will continue to bury our children as victim's of mass murder. For there are none so blind, as those who will not see. Arkansas, Oregon, Colorado... they will not be the last. They are merely signposts along a road well-paved with good intentions... a road we have gone too far down, as a people, to stop walking now. "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." EXODUS 20-3 "Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God AM a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me."
