I am sending this post to announce the creation of a new Situation Reports email list.
The old SitReps group was originally an invitation-only list created for Y2K. It was then expanded to an open subscription list in the wake of 9/11.
Due to the disappearance of the original moderators and the subsequent infestation of spammers, the new SituReps group was created.
The SituReps group is an ALERT (minimal discussion) list meant to advise members of breaking/emergency situations.
The purpose of the group is for members to send in local reports of unusual or emergency activity or threats in their area such as military or police operations, troop movements, roadblocks/checkpoints, confiscations/siezures, arrests, violations of the Posse Comitatus Act, social disruptions, or any emergency situation.
While the original list was devoted only to man-made situations, the recent severe hurricanes have demonstrated a need for Situation Reports regarding natural disasters, also.
Appropriate subject matter would be information not normally reported by the major media outlets, but are small pieces of information which provide a clear picture of a situation.
