-Caveat Lector- I think you might be right. The only people who seem to be truly upset at the prospect of encountering a technologically superior species seem to be privileged members of first world countries. Third world people (who make up the majority of the human race) might view the aliens as liberators. After all, the past four hundred years of first world cultural/economic/political/social domination of the third world has not been much fun for those individuals who have been on the receiving end of Western attention. Besides, alien are cool. They're short and gray...and they have these vaguely Oriental eyes. Pherhaps most disturbing to western sensibilities, they don't seem to have much reverence for our concepts of private property. Not only do they come and go on our turf whenever they want, they seem to be interested in our women. According to Jacobs, female abductees who stare into the black, insect eyes of the aliens often experience the most intensely pleasureful sexual feelings that they have ever known. Apparently, according to the author, some earth girls are not only producing alien babies, but they are having fun in the process. Although the female abductees vociferously maintain that they find these encounters to be horrible and revolting, they also candidly admit that these contacts are often pleasurable. What is one to make of all this? We can only speculate. But your post does raise an interesting possibility. Perhaps now that the commies are gone, we need a new threat to keep our aging empire going. Why not commies from outer space! Commies from the cosmos? The grays seem to believe in free love and they're oversexed. They share their property in common. They're short and of a different color (that always has made it easier for us not to hesitate when pulling the trigger). And whatever religion they might profess, all of us know that we'll have to convert them. In Dr. Jacobs's account, the grays resemble anemic teletubbies..minus the cutesy jumpsuits and roly-poly physiques. He assures us that there are tall grays as well as short ones. And, lo and behold, their spaceships are often manned by blue-eyed, blond "nordics." But he believes the nordics are only human slaves of the grays. Sadly, Dr. Jacobs notes that, so far, we're no match for the uninvited guests. We just don't have the tech ability to resist them; and, by the end of the twenty-first century, there will be so many of "them" roaming around, they'll be able to easily take us over. But it will be a dangerous prospect for the grays, of course. Most of us out here in the hinterlands are armed to the teeth and ready for action.
