Heck, people have been behaving that way behind the wheel since the
invention of the automobile! Cell phones are a symptom, not a cause, of road
rage, etc. This is not to say they don't make matters considerably worse. I
have been nearly run down more than once, while trying to cross one
particular intersection on foot, with the light, by drivers holding a phone
to their ear with one hand and steering with the other as they negotiated a
sharp left turn... And one time I found myself sitting at a red light behind
an absolute idiot, who was, of course, talking on her cell phone, and
fluffing her hair with her other hand...and when the light changed, she
started up--without putting either hand on the steering wheel!!! She must
have driven close to 100 feet before she was actually *controlling* the
effing car...
