The Southeastern Michigan Snow and Ice Management Partners have chosen
Dulles Virginia-based Orbital Science Corp's ORBTRAC-100 satellite-
based AUTOMATIC VEHICLE LOCATION and two-way messaging system to help
TRACK and manage a protion of its road maintenance fleets. Under a 1.1.
million contract, the system will be initially installed on 40 snow
plows, with phased installations on the entire 500-vehicle fleet over
two or three years, SEMSIM unites the four largest road maintenance
agencies in southeat Michigan in a demonstration project to improve the
snow clearing process in Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties and in the
city of Detroit.
