Subj: [RF]: Urban Legends= CIA site
 **Exclusive**
 Dear Friend:

Many of you have probably received e-mails in the past claiming to be
from dying cancer patients or warning you of some new computer virus.
Upon forwarding these incredible stories to your friends and family,
some smart alec may forward you a reference to some so-called "urban
legends" website which claims to have proof debunking these stories.

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THESE URBAN LEGENDS WEBSITES!
Recent research has revealed that many urban legends books and
websites are actually urban legends themselves. Oftentimes the
stories you read in forwarded e-mail messages, as incredible as they may
seem, are absolutely TRUE. It is the claim that these stories are urban
 legends which is FALSE.

Why, you may ask, would anyone do such a thing? Why spend valuable
time and money creating a site only to deceive innocent Internet users? The
reason for doing this is that many world governments (including the United
States government) have a strong vested interest in deceiving "the
masses." For instance, many alleged "urban legends" deal with true events
that are potentially embarassing and incriminating to the government (UFO
sightings, government experimentation on humans, etc.). What better way
to keep these kinds of covert operations secret than to spread rumors that
they are actually just "urban legends"? Doing this results in the more
educated--and, therefore, more politically influential--groups in society
believing that they know the "real" truth, when in fact they could not be more
deceived.

How did we discover that the government is intentionally using
Internet urban legend websites to deceive the public? We did so by
accessing a freely-available but relatively-unknown database of all
Internet domain names and their respective owners. The entry for
http://www.urbanlegends.com, which claims to be an urban-legend
debunking site, clearly shows that this site is controlled by the
 government:

 Domain Name: URBANLEGENDS.COM

 Registrant:
 United States Central Intelligence Agency
 Branch Office #311
 P.O. Box 5752
 Washington, DC 20015

 Administrative Contact:
Heimbaugh, Jason R., Colonel (JRH) [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 +1 217 863 2001

 Record last updated on 02-Apr-98.
Database last updated on 24-Jan-99 06:52:55 EST.

 Domain servers in listed order:
 NS.ADVANCENET.NET 205.198.248.3
 DNS.ADVANCENET.NET 205.198.248.4

Furthermore, you can even contact Col. Heimbaugh, the "administrative
contact" for this domain at the e-mail address in the record above
([EMAIL PROTECTED]). He freely admits to being a retired military
officer and a current employee of the CIA. He refused to comment on the
www.urbanlegends.com website, saying that its purpose was "classified,"
yet insisted that the CIA was merely trying to "keep the American public
properly informed by discrediting allegations that could jeopardize the
ability of our leaders to govern effectively." By this he can only mean one
thing: the U.S. government is using Internet urban legends websites to
deceive the public.

We have recently learned that the following other Internet urban
legends sites are also owned and operated by the government:
 http://urbanlegends.tqn.com/
 http://www.scambusters.org/legends.html
 http://www.snopes.com/

We believe that it is essential that this information be properly
disseminated so that people can learn the truth. When we attempted to
publicize this information by creating a website of our own, the site was
shut down due to a "permanent TCP/IP routing error" and all of our data
was destroyed. Thus, sending this information out by e-mail has become
our last hope. PLEASE SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE YOU
KNOW!!! This information is too important to be ignored. Thank you for
taking the time to read this.
