WJPBR Email News List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Peace at any cost is a Prelude to War! Tzemach News Service Week Ending: 3 June 2000 29 Iyar 5760 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "If I forget you, O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget her skill. May my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, if I do not remember you, if I do not exalt Jerusalem above my chief joy." (Psalm 137.5-6) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jerusalem Day - 2000: Friday, 28 Iyar (2 June) was Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day). Thirty-three years ago G-d returned Jerusalem to the nation of Israel. Shortly thereafter, Moshe Dayan, for reasons known only to him and G-d, gave back the Temple Mount to the Arabs. Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. It has never been the capital of another nation or people. Jerusalem is mentioned in the Bible over 700 times, yet not a single mention of it appears in the Koran. The Waqf, the Islamic religious trust, under the leadership of Yassir Arafat, is responsible for attempting to erase the Jewish historical basis of the Temple Mount and illegally have been throwing away by the truckload, archaeological remains of the First Temple. Visit <http://www.miac.com/bait/> and witness the Waqf's destruction on the Temple Mount --destruction aimed to make sure that no one will find any proof for such a claim. This past week Israel celebrated G-d's great victory during the Six-Day War. Jews and members of the Temple Mount Faithful went to Orient House and protested against the illegal use of Orient House by the PLO. As they were peacefully assembled, the Jews were physically attacked by Palestinian thugs who belittled and physically attacked the protestors. The Palestinians were spurred on by Arab photographers who planned on using this as a photo op. Faisal Husseini, PLO Minister of Jerusalem Affairs, was at Orient House when the attack took place. It always has been about Jerusalem. G-d sent Abraham to Mount Moriah to test him (Genesis 22). Mount Moriah is the Temple Mount. G- d sent an angel to test King David. David declared "This is the house of the L-rd" (1 Chronicles 22.1). The place where he stood was the threshing floor of Ornan (which King David purchased). The threshing floor of Ornan is also the Temple Mount. King Solomon built the Temple on Mount Moriah (2 Chronicles 3.1). G-d declared to Ezekiel "Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place of the soles of My feet, where I will dwell among the sons of Israel forever" (Ezekiel 43.7). Zechariah reveals that it is for the sake of Jerusalem that the L-rd comes to fight against the nations (Zechariah 12-14). It is with Jerusalem that He will test His people. Pray for their strength -- Am Yisrael Chai! The Return to Joseph's Tomb: For the first time since the PLO orchestrated warfare throughout Yesha known as "Nakba" on May 15, the students of the Od Yosef Chai Yeshiva were permitted to return to their building located in the Joseph's Tomb complex in Shechem. With the exception of Joseph's Tomb, the city of Shechem was given away to the PLO as part of the Oslo process and is under total PLO autonomous control. Upon their return to the complex, the students began preparing a comprehensive list of needed equipment and repairs to undo the damages from attacks by Arab residents and PLO paramilitary forces. Firebombs were hurled into the holy site, causing significant damage during the riots which were widespread throughout Yesha. Fearing for the lives of Israeli forces protecting the tomb, a tank was positioned on the hill overlooking the holy site, sending a clear message to the PLO that there would not be a repeat of the September 1996 riots, during which Israeli forces fell in the defense of Joseph's Tomb. The Army of the PLO: An Israeli security official said Tuesday that Israel could face an organized Palestinian military force after an independent state is created. The security source stated that in recent months there has been a dramatic increase in the conversion of the different Palestinian security forces into a military force that carries out exercises, maneuvers, and live fire drills within the Palestinian Authority (PA/PLO) controlled areas as they travel in military convoys. "The forces are training for combat to protect Area A," he said. Another security official remarked that from the outset, the Palestinian police and other security forces adopted military-style operations and focused less on community service and combating crime. The officials commented that the military force is being commanded by qualified officers who have extensive training in Egypt, Yemen, Italy, and Eastern European countries. Currently, there are 22,000 Palestinian security members who serve in the different security factions in Gaza, including intelligence, preventive security, and police, military, and naval forces. Some Israeli sources have estimated that there are 40,000 PA/PLO police in Judea/Samaria and Gaza regions. The large total is in direct violation of the Oslo Peace Accords. There are also large quantities of illegal weapons smuggled into the Gaza via PA/PLO officials and VIPs, as well as the hundreds of illegal weapons held by individuals and terror cells. The military force in Gaza has several armored personnel carriers and other vehicles mounting machine guns and mortars. Almost one year ago, the Toronto Zionist Council sponsored a series of lectures in various forums in Toronto by Israeli Army reservist Mordechai Sones. During his army duties and as a tour guide, Mordechai noticed some very disturbing developments taking place in Judea and Samaria. More than two years ago, with the help of an American Special Forces officer (retired), he did extensive research and observed what could only be described as extensive preparations for war by the PLO "police" forces. At first he reported these disturbing developments to his commanding officers, who, while admitting that most of his findings were valid, refused to follow up on it. Then he tried to alert the Yesha leadership and he was equally rebuffed. Eventually, he wrote an authoritative, well documented report on the subject, the "Report On Arab First Strike Preparations In Yesha" [available on our website] which was wide- ly circulated to people who were believed to be interested in the security and preparedness of the Jewish state. Sadly, their responses were discouraging. Finally, the main stream media is starting to report it. PLO Army Threatens Action: Thousands of Palestinians will attempt to "conquer" Jewish Yesha communities upon the unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state on September 13. So claims a Saudi Arabian newspaper, quoting a "Plan for Liberation of Lands" authorized by the PA/PLO. This report jibes with a statement made recently by leading PLO official Faisal Husseini, who said that on the day after the declaration of a Palestinian state "on all its lands," the Palestinians living in refugee camps will "march" towards Israeli cities and villages. Husseini acknowledged that violence during such a march would be likely, and that it could lead to a Palestinian conquest of Jewish towns in Yesha. Residents of the Binyamin community of Nachliel sent an urgent letter to IDF Binyamin area commander Col. Gal Hirsch this week, warning that the IDF will be unable to reach Yesha towns in the event that the Palestinians carry through with their threats to overtake the communities. Beit El Mayor Uri Ariel related to these threats, and said, "We have raised these issues with the army and government, who are responsible for these matters. They are aware of the issue and are organized to deal with it." Ariel also said that the towns already have weapons that, in the opinion of the army, are sufficient to deal with external threats. Ben-Ami Reveals Deep Barak-Clinton Connection: Minister of Public Security Shlomo Ben-Ami said today that there are only a few weeks left for Israel to either come to an agreement with the Palestinians, or miss the opportunity for a long time to come. He explained that Clinton's term as US President is coming to an end, and he will soon not be able to broker an agreement, and the same with Congress, which will soon be unable to approve the large aid packages needed for the agreements. Yossi Ben-Aharon, who headed Prime Minister Yitzchak Shamir's office, reacted with alarm today to Ben-Ami's words: "I don't think that Ben-Ami himself realized the severity of his words. He has now revealed the true intentions of the Barak government. I have said from the beginning that Barak has tied his time schedule and his planning of the entire diplomatic process with Clinton.. Clinton has his own interests -- he wants to end his career with the attainment of an agreement between Israel and her neighbors, and so he and [Secretary of State] Albright and the others are heavily pressuring Barak to complete the talks before the end of Clinton's term. Clinton, in turn, promised that he would pass the aid package through Congress, which will also include much money for the Palestinians, Syria, and Lebanon. This shows that whoever believes the denials of the Prime Minister's office regarding these concessions and 90% of Yesha is simply mistaken ... I say this with great trembling, but what Ehud Barak is doing is very frightening: He is knowingly gambling on the future and the security of the State of Israel. He is ignoring the history of the Palestinian Authority which has not lived up to any of its commitments, and is giving away all the land, and then - after more intifada and more violence -he will wake up one day and say, Whoops, we made a mistake." A Jerusalem Ghetto? Responding to the Arab violence that last month attended a Knesset vote approving the cession to the PLO of Abu Dis and two another Jerusalem suburbs, Mayor Olmert is proposing that a fence be erected between the capital and those villages. According to a report in Ha'aretz, the mayor hopes that the partition will serve to deter the PLO's policemen from firing their automatic weapons at Jews, as they did last month -- and not for the first time, either. Jerusalem's district police commander, for his part, is asking his government for instructions: Will his forces, or those of Israel's army, be deployed along this fence? Secret Meetings Back On: Israel and the Palestinians have returned to talks on a permanent peace treaty, a Palestinian official said Saturday. The meeting took place Thursday night and early Friday morning said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. He refused to say where it was held. The negotiations, which were previously being held in the Swedish capital Stockholm, were moved to an undisclosed location, presumed to be in Israel or the Palestinian areas. The discussions are aimed at achieving a framework for the final status agreement between the two sides. Meanwhile, Swedish Prime Minister Goeran Persson is slated to travel to the Middle East on Sunday, joining US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Middle East Peace Envoy Dennis Ross in international mediation efforts to advance the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, Ha'aretz reported. Barak Following in Rabin's Footsteps? Statements made by Shimon Riklin, leader of Dor Hemshech (the Next Generation movement), during a forum of young Labor Party and Likud activists in Psagot Sunday night have been taken out of context by the media and many others. Riklin stated to the effect that Barak's policies may bring about the assassination of another Prime Minister. Former Yesha Council head Yisrael Harel, who participated in the forum, was asked to relate to the remarks on Arutz-7 and said: "First of all, he did not say such a strong statement. In general, I would advise against cooperating with certain elements who wish to have us forget about the failure of Lebanon and would rather shift all accusatory sentiments to the settlers - our 'national punching bag.' What Riklin said was that in the excited atmosphere that would be caused by the evacuation of 100,000 Yesha residents, it could be that someone will think thoughts of murder. Riklin himself, and the organization that he represents, is as far as east from west from thoughts of this nature. It could be, however, that he senses certain things that I do not - it's always good to be extra cautious." Riklin elaborated further: "There is anger and frustration ... I believe that it [an assassination] could happen again because of the situation ... such an act would be perpetrated by elements outside Judea and Samaria," he said. "Prior to [Rabin's] assassination ... I warned the General Security Service (GSS) twice that I feared someone might harm him because of his government policy, which ... split the public." He added, "They ignored my warnings." Israel Given "Temporary" Status in UN Group: After 40 years of exclusion, Israel was given 'temporary' membership in a United Nations regional group that opens the way for its eventual election to key UN bodies. Israel's UN envoy, Yehuda Lancry, said he received a letter on Friday from the current chairman of the West European and Others Group (WEOG), ambassador Peter van Walsum of the Netherlands, informing him of the group's decision. Many UN committee posts as well as ten rotating seats on the Security Council are nominated by five regional groups to retain a geographical balance. Although some nations never get nominated, only Israel could not compete at all. Opposition from Arab and other countries has prevented Israel from joining the Asian group, which corresponds to its geographical region. Although some nations never get nominated, only Israel could not compete at all. Opposition from Arab and other countries has prevented Israel from joining the Asian group, which corresponds to its geographical region. Israel's membership will be for an initial four years, after which it will be subject to confirmation by the group. The "understandings," or conditions, referred to by van Walsum will prevent Israel from submitting candidates for any contested UN posts for two years and would bar it from a few posts for considerably longer. Israel, a UN member since 1949, is the only UN member barred from any regional group since the system developed in the early 1960s. That makes it impossible to sit on the Security Council, the only UN body with authority. New Sources: Pope Had Daily Holocaust Updates: Pope Pius XII, head of the Catholic Church during World War II, was given daily briefings of Nazi atrocities by the British envoy to the Holy See, according to documents recently found in a Rome flea market. The documents were discovered by Italian journalist and antiquarian book collector Fabrizio Coisson, who found bound carbon copies of the reports at Rome's Porta Portese market. "I was astonished to find a signed note in which the British diplomat describes how every day he transcribed BBC broadcasts and passed them to the pope," said Coisson. The documents indicated the frustration of the British government with the pope's rejection of the idea of attacking the fascist power. However, one source commemorated British Catholics for their war effort in spite of the Holy See's appeasement stand. Star of David Stays: Israel's local version of the Red Cross, the Magen David Adom, said on Friday it had rejected a proposal that it be allowed to join various international Red Cross bodies provided it sheds the Star of David. Israel has been excluded from the International Commitee for the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross Societies (IFRC) for over 50 years, but the US Red Cross recently pressed the Swiss-run ICRC to let Israel's society in. Key Red Cross and Red Crescent associations have proposed that a neutral diamond symbol be used as a mark of protection in war zones for the Israeli group and others who do not want to display either the Red Cross or the Red Crescent favored by some Islamic countries. But Magen David Adom's director, Avi Zohar, said his group told ICRC representatives who were in Israel earlier this week that it rejected the suggestion. "It is unacceptable...It (the new emblem) will be only for Israel and if it is so, it will be like a yellow star,'' Zohar said, referring to the yellow patch the Nazis forced Jews to wear.
