Could Colby have been duped with a lousy copy of the FLIR and assurance that these flashes (solar reflections) are gunshots, leading him to take action to expose the apparent crime, with evidence that would mislead the government's opponents and fall apart after legal teams staked their case on innocent solar reflections? (Is that the "wrong" question or what! :-) Here are some relevant quotes about the source of the Waco FLIR "evidence" from an investigator for one of the legal teams bringing suit for wrongful death who filed the FLIR in court, Gordon Novel: "In December 1995, Colby gave us one of the first major chunks of evidence: the FLIR tape that shows the FBI machine-gunning the women and children that were trying to get out of the vault in the rear of the building... " Source: American Freedom, October 1996, page 10. "Colby gave me the FLIR tape in December. My attorneys in New Orleans were told very clearly that the tape was coming from an ex-CIA director. They were only interested in the evidence, and not really concerned where I was getting the evidence from. Colby initially wanted the tape to go to Eugene Grassley, the Republican senator on the Senate Judiciary Committee from Iowa. ... [Colby] had supplied the tape and all the evidence in the case..." It takes special technology that someone in the Technical Services Directorate or somewhere in the CIA had discovered, using high tech equipment to amplify the flashes from the machine guns, which were all probably silenced weapons." So it was assumed by several experts that the flashes must be guns shooting toward Mt Carmel. However, a feature of all those flashes is that they all happen when the aircraft is in one region of the sky, and all moving flashes move in one direction viewed frame by frame: left to right. Question: in what direction would a reflection of the sun in its position over Mt Carmel move across a reflective surface on the ground when viewed from the region of sky and direction of motion of the FLIR aircraft? Answer: left to right. Therefore, flashes with a left-to-right propagation toward Mt Carmel would be an expected feature of reflections seen from objects when viewed from all the angles the aircraft viewed the flashes. Regarding the fact that two flashes occur at Location 8 separated by twelve minutes with the camera in virtually the same location, one respondent raised the important point that the Earth's motion over twelve minutes would mean the camera needs to be in a different position to catch the same reflected beam twelve minutes later. Well, the camera is in a different position, slightly different, but what you'd expect to see for the displacement of a reflected solar beam over twelve minutes.
