     The Bastard President

I have been trying to take this all in it lately. It hasn't been easy. I am
so damn angry that this election for the presidency has been stolen.
I am outraged at how this theft has been sanitized by the media. I am angry
but not surprised. In case you didn't know, Al Gore won the popular vote by
568,000 votes. George Bush, Jr. did not win. Illegal acts in the state of
Florida, governed by his brother, stole the election. He is the
illegitimate President.

It was Party Time!

A good friend of mine has been working on the renovation of the Capitol
Building. While he was scurrying about the premises a few weeks ago, he
overheard a number congressional aides talking about what they were going
to wear to the "party."
My friend had no clue about what they were talking about until he saw the
footage of the "party" at the Election canvassing board in Florida. He knew
from first hand experience that those were not just some "interested"
citizens, he knew that they were paid operatives of the Republican Party.

     Happy Anniversary

The date of the "party" was November 22, 2000. The thirty-seventh
anniversary of the assassination of JFK. Lots of activity in both Texas and
Florida during that "operation."
Yes, that was the first stage of this coup. And if you follow the history
of these types, you learn that they like nothing better than to commemorate
their "holy" days with some kind of action.
Now, what better way for the veterans of the JFK assassination, the Bay of
Pigs invasion, the Watergate scandal, Iran-Contra and the Savings and Loan
grandest of all larcenies, to "celebrate" their assassination of a
president, than to steal an election from another!

Which side are you on?

This fascistic takeover of the government of the United States (no
hyperbole here) actually became the last chance for Democrats. This was it.
The Democrats were having the Supreme Court decide that they had lost the
presidential election.
Yes, it is true that they could have run a much better campaign, but
regardless of that fact, they are victims of this venal theft by the
Republicans.
It was really a time for them to act in such a way to justify the support
that they had received from the 50 million plus who voted for Al Gore. It
was time for the Democrats to lead the fight. It was time to show some
backbone.
Regardless of what the ruling elite wants us to buy into, this is not a
time for reconciliation. This is not a time for unity. This is not a time
to cast oneself as the loyal opposition.
This is the time to be an obstructionist. It is time to be a belligerent
party that will fight for the rights of working and poor people, especially
those who were disenfranchised voters in this election. This is the time
for the Democratic Party to stand up and resist the Bush Oligarchy and its
attempt to rule.
But I am afraid that this last chance for Democrats to show leadership
evaporated into thin air when the feckless Al Gore, losing his chance to
seize the moment and change history, kow-towed to his beloved ruling class.
Gore in his calling for this faux unity that is meant only to mislead and
mollify the populace, has betrayed his supporters. He also joins the cabal
that wants us to believe that being a good American means accepting,
without question, the theft of the presidency.

     Feckless Al

Feckless Al Gore provided no leadership to counter this coup. Al Gore would
rather lose the presidency
of the United States than raise the issue of race in America.
Al Gore could have gone on television and refused to concede. He could have
referred to the tens of thousands of African-Americans denied the right to
have their votes counted. Al Gore could have said that enough was enough.
Gore could have stated that he would not allow the illegitimate seizure of
this government. Gore could have said that he would, not only, fight to
have every vote counted, but that he would take the leadership in a
movement to make sure that each and every American would have the right to
vote. Gore could have promised that this right would be protected by the
full force of law.
But he didn't.

A Vote For Gore Was A Vote For Bush

Nader was, evidently, correct. At the core, there is no basic difference
between Gore and Bush, they both are wedded to fealty when it comes to the
ruling elite.

Tens of thousands of African-Americans disenfranchised and Gore did nothing.

A right-wing coup d'etat was declared legal by the Supreme Court. The
United States presidential election has been effectively stolen by
right-wing Republicans. The Bush oligarchy regains full power. The cause of
corporatism reigns supreme in America.
Initially, I had thought that the movement to fight this coup was going to
be marginalized. We would be shown that Jesse Jackson, a few unions and the
anti-WTO kids would be the entire face of protest. Any chance that the
middle of the Democratic Party would actively participate in a movement to
resist this takeover was thwarted by Gore's concession speech. Then I got a
further surprise.

Et Tu, Jesse?

The man who was to lead the remaining opposition, Jesse Jackson, ends up
pledging to support Bush by helping to facilitate the "healing".
What a total crock! This election is deemed legitimate on the one hand, and
exercising your constitutional rights to protest is not, on the other. The
whole thing is Orwellian and really seems like a Psy-Op.

Never again!

What I am now afraid of is that the Democrats are planning to repeat the
disaster of Reagan's first term.
Back in the 80s, when Reagan took power, the Democrats controlled both
houses of Congress. Somehow we were sold a bill of goods that it was
tactically beneficial to allow Reagan to "have" his program. What a
monumental mistake that turned out to be!

     Springtime for G. W. Bush

Now there is a call for "unity" and "cooperation." This nonsense about
bi-partisanship can lead to a legislative nightmare for working and poor
people. How many Democrats are going to cave in to corporate greed, and
facilitate the advancement of the right-wing Republican dreams?

     Traitors

Each politician who calls for reconciliation, and each media flack who
agrees, is nothing more than a collaborator to this coup. This also
includes the so-called liberal types who claim that their passivity, at
this time, is due to their desire to not appear to mimic the behavior of
the right-wing over the past years, and whine about the legitimacy of the
Presidency. What spineless drivel!

Don't Mourn, Organize!

What else is there for us to do? We certainly can't look for leadership
from Al Gore or Jesse Jackson.
I am convinced that It is necessary for us to take the initiative and
educate ourselves, communicate to our friends and neighbors, and organize.
It is time for the grassroots to organize a resistance. It is time for
citizen action. It calls for hard work, and it calls for some faith. The
hard work is necessary because this can't be accomplished on some national
stage or scale. The hard work is necessary because this must be
accomplished on the local level. The hope is that our fellow citizens will
do likewise in their communities. The faith comes in the belief that there
is nothing more powerful than the people organizing from the ground up.

     A reminder

We will not be legitimized by the New York Times or NBC. They will not
facilitate our work either. It really comes down to just us.

Be a leader.
