A world-first study by Swinburne University researchers has revealed distinct changes in the brain of sufferers as they "switch" personalities. Researchers compared the brains of five people with the disorder with five actors mimicking their alter-egos. They found the equivalent of a brain "fingerprint" did not alter in the actors playing other roles, despite outwardly convincing performances. But the brain readings of multiple personality disorder sufferers changed as each different "person" emerged. The sufferers were able to call up each different personality at will and perform a simple memory test.
