Saving fuel ?.., testing a theory ?..., or testing new equipment ?..., T ******************************************************************** France: Air Traffic Control (ATC) personnel will initiate a 36-hour strike action at 1900 local time (1800 GMT) today, and it is expected to cause major disruptions in domestic, and possibly international, flights. The French Civil Aviation Authority estimates that the action will affect up to 90 percent of flights, but medical, rescue, and government/military flights will not be affected. Air France projects that it may cancel 85 percent of its regional flights and 5 percent of its long-distance international flights. British Airways announced that it canceled 93 out of 97 of its flights to France for the first 24 hours of the strike. The action may also disrupt flights in other countries and cause difficulties in the overflight of French airspace. The air traffic controllers are protesting the liberalization of Europe's airspace.
