ENDANGERED SPECIES FRAUD: Left-wing extremists will do just about anything to
advance their agenda -- including lies, fraud, and even committing acts of
violence. Several biologists who worked for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service,
the U.S. Forest Service, and the Washington State Department of Fish &
Wildlife came under investigation when, as part of an ongoing national survey
begun during the Clinton administration to study the habitat of the allegedly
endangered Canadian lynx, they planted false samples of lynx fur at locations
in various Washington state forests. If it was determined that lynx habitats
included those new areas, most human activity would have been banned. The
areas already off limits to most human use, in order to protect lynx
habitats, are not considered expansive enough by radical environmentalists.
Those who recall the arson committed by environmental terrorists at the Vail
Ski Resort in 1998, causing millions of dollars of damage, may also recall
that that arson was claimed to be in defense of lynx habitats. The biologists
accused were given counseling, and six of them have since retired.

Imagine if the reverse had taken place. Imagine if private property advocates
intentionally killed endangered species found on private land, in an attempt
to portray the land in question as free from such species so that it could be
developed? Actually, we know what happens -- even when the killing is purely
accidental. Remember that hapless California farmer who made the mistake of
accidentally killing five rats while plowing his fields in 1994? The feds
thought the rats in question were endangered Tipton kangaroo rats, and
launched a paramilitary raid of heavily armed agents to arrest the farmer and
seize the instrument of his crime -- his tractor. The feds then threatened
the farmer with 3 years in prison, a $300,000 fine, forfeiture of half of his
farm, and payment of $172,425 into a fund to operate a wildlife preserve. In
the end the feds were embarrassed into dropping the charges, settling the
case for a $5000 "voluntary" donation by the farmer to a local habitat
conservation fund.

One arrogant Earth Liberation Front spokesman denied that
environmentally-inspired arsons were terrorism at all with the following
empty-headed inanity: "How can you be violent against a piece of property.
It's ridiculous. How can you be a terrorist if you're just destroying a
building and nobody's in it?" A building, it must be pointed out, that he
didn't own, and that was torched with the specific intention of trying to
change the behavior of the person who owned it, such as inducing the owner to
abandon the property. By those standards, if bin Laden's plans had come to
fruition a few hours earlier and the World Trade Center was unoccupied, that
ELF idiot would probably have praised Al Qaida.

TALIBAN JOHN: Those who thought that the root cause of John Walker's decision
to take up arms against his country and fight alongside the Afghan Taliban
was his left-wing upbringing, sorry, you just don't get it. It wasn't treason
-- it was TV ads. Walker, you see, was simply pursuing "personal
authenticity" as demanded by American corporate consumerism. The New York
Times explained it all: "Extremism in the pursuit of intensity, the ad men
tell us, is no vice. . Maybe the boy Talib is simply an attentive consumer,
his ill-fated affair with extreme Islam merely a twisted continuation of his
search for the weapons-grade authenticity promised him so many times by
manufacturers of bell-bottom jeans and lemon-lime soda." Well, now that
that's settled, let's not hear any more talk about trials and treason! Just
give "the boy Talib" a plane ticket to the next protest against the World
Trade Organization, and the man who thought living a stone-age existence
practicing an ideology that treats women like dirt can take his rightful
place in the front ranks of the movement that thinks the whole world should
go back to living a stone-age existence.

And speaking of an ideology that treats women like dirt, we can thank an
"internationally renowned feminist", quoted in the Washington Post, for
enlightening us about the root cause of terrorism in general and the Taliban
in particular: "Travel to the heart of darkness that is terrorism and you
will find that one of its causes -- not much spoken about -- is the
definition of manhood that has been ingrained in nearly every society for
centuries." See -- it's all the fault of that standard feminist canard, the
male-dominated patriarchal society. The psycho-babble prattled on, "The
terrorist is the ultimate sexual idol of a male-centered cultural tradition..
The tragedy is this won't change until we raise our kids differently. There
will always be somebody willing to die for a cause." You know, willing to die
for a cause like those firemen who ran into the blazing infernos on September
11 trying to save others, or willing to die for a cause like those men in our
military currently risking their lives on foreign shores in defense of
freedom, or willing to die for a cause like those policemen who daily risk
their lives protecting us all, including internationally renowned feminists,
from criminal attack. All of which the "internationally renowned feminist"
would apparently like to purge from society: "Men and women can change the
definition of manhood. .Then we can look to the firefighters in New York who
wept. That, to me, is real manhood." So there you have it. All the bombs and
soldiers who rooted out the Taliban were totally unnecessary. What we should
have done was simply gather together in a national sob-fest (group hug) and
terrorism itself would be vanquished. Which still doesn't explain why Osama
bin Laden launched at least four separate terrorist attacks against Americans
during the past eight years while the master of the quivering lower lip
himself was president.

DO-NOTHING DEMOCRAT SENATE: When he became Senate Majority Leader, Tom
Daschle must have thought he had been anointed dictator, because he has
decided that the Constitution is now irrelevant (not that leftists ever pay
much attention to the Constitution anyway). Article I, Section 5 of the U.S.
Constitution states that "a majority.shall constitute a quorum to do
business.". Daschle, however, has decided to change the rules: ".in
controversial issues, the Founding Fathers have said that it ought to take a
super majority to pass." Forget the Constitutional requirement of a simple
majority -- in Tom Daschle's Senate, nothing moves without a sixty vote
majority. What is deemed to be "controversial" is, of course, like beauty, in
the eye of the beholder, and in this case what is "controversial" is at the
sole discretion of the little dictator, defined no doubt as anything that the
most extreme leftist in the Senate doesn't like. What Daschle attributes to
the Founding Fathers is the super majority required to stop a Senate
filibuster. But the public, ever clamorous for bipartisanship, doesn't like
filibusters, because the party carrying on the filibuster appears to be
obstructionist. And Tom Daschle doesn't want the public to catch on to how
obstructionist his party is. So he will simply refuse to allow any matter to
come up at all, that he or some left-wing extremist doesn't like. Too
"controversial".

Rule # XXVI (3) of the Senate requires standing committees to meet at least
once a month when the Senate is in session. Rule 2 (a) of the Senate
Committee on Energy and Natural Resources requires that committee to meet
once a month. But the Senate Energy Committee has not held a hearing to
consider legislation since August, so as not to have to report out the
bipartisan energy legislation that Daschle knows would receive a favorable
vote of the full Senate. But it's not the bill that Daschle wants, so he has
simply shut down the committee on this matter. But that's not all. The House
passed economic stimulus legislation, but the Senate under the thumb of Tom
Daschle, did not; and the Senate confirmation process has bogged down to a
snail's pace as a result of partisan democrat obstructionism, with many
presidential nominees being denied even a committee hearing. Some of the
nominees have been waiting since last May for a hearing. And when President
Bush suggested that he might counteract the Senate obstruction with recess
appointments, democrats warned him not to do so because the nominees never
had a committee hearing.

Instead, before recess Daschle had the Senate working to reauthorize farm
subsidies that will not expire for nearly a year. Why? According to numerous
media reports, at least a half dozen members of Congress, from both parties,
have their own hands in taxpayers' pockets and qualify for farm subsidies,
and they need their pork! And the next time Daschle and the democrats blow
hot air about "saving family farms", consider that, according to the
Environmental Working Group database, last year the "farmers" in the city of
Beverly Hills, California, received nearly a half million dollars in farm
subsidies; while the "farmers" in New York City received over $3 million in
farm subsidies.

When democrats were in the minority in the Senate, stupid-party republicans
offered a power-sharing arrangement to Senate democrats in an effort to
appear "bipartisan" to the public and to curry favor with the media. However,
since democrats gained the slim majority they now hold in the Senate (thanks
to Jim Jeffords), notice how there has been zero talk about power-sharing
with republicans. Maybe this will teach a lesson to stupid-party republicans
dumb enough to offer to share power with a party whose goal is the utter
destruction of everything conservatives stand for.

RULES DON'T APPLY: Speaking of mean spirited left-wingers, consider the
ongoing farce of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and its chairman, Mary
Frances Berry. Back in June the leftist dominated Commission, headed by
staunch Gore supporter Berry, issued its report, titled "Voting
Irregularities in Florida During the 2000 Presidential Election". To the
surprise of no one, the report concluded, "After carefully and fully
examining all the evidence before it, the Commission found a strong basis for
concluding that violations of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965
occurred in Florida." Of course when the Commission refuses to examine
evidence that contradicts its preordained conclusion, it can truthfully say
that "all the evidence before it" led to that predetermined conclusion. One
significant piece of evidence that the Commission refused to examine was a
dissent, written by two of the Commission's own members (Abigail Thernstrom
and Russell Redenbaugh), containing an analysis of the Florida voting
authored by Yale Law School economist Dr. John Lott. The Commission relied
instead on an analysis done by an American University historian who had
worked as a consultant to Al Gore. Berry refused to even include the dissent
as part of the Commission's official final report because, it was said, work
done by unpaid consultants is illegal under Commission rules, thus the
Commission cannot use work done by unpaid consultants. Lott had provided his
expertise without pay.

Fast forward to the present. On December 5, President Bush appointed Peter
Kirsanow to a vacant seat on the Civil Rights Commission to replace Clinton
appointee Victoria Wilson, whose term expired the prior week. But Berry
refused to seat Kirsanow, who presence would shift the political ideology on
the Commission from 5-3 in favor of the leftists, to a 4-4 balance -- a
bipartisan balance, it might be noted, that would stifle Berry's blatantly
partisan anti-Bush agenda. The squabble over seating Kirsanow has resulted in
a lawsuit. The Washington Times reported this week that Berry has accepted
the unpaid assistance of a New York law firm to represent the Commission.
Apparently unpaid consultants are only illegal when they work for anyone who
dissents from Mary Frances Berry.

CLINTON'S LEGACY: With Bill Clinton's flaks now making the rounds trying to
burnish his forever stained legacy, Peggy Noonan writing in the Wall Street
Journal presented the perfect summation of the Clinton legacy: "When you walk
into the presidency as a fully formed adult your first thought is, 'What
should I do first and how and when?' When you walk into it with more vanity
than sense, more hunger than purpose, your first thought is of what history
will say of you. Mr. Clinton spent all his time thinking about his legacy,
and by the end he had one: He was the president who spent his time thinking
about his legacy while Osama made his plans. He wasted history's time."
