:: A THOUSAND ISRAELIS MARCH TO TEMPLE MOUNT: On 1 Adar (12 February), the
first day of Rosh Hodesh Adar, the Temple Mount Faithful and a thousand
Israeli men and women marched to the gates and around the walls of the
Temple Mount through the streets of the Old City. This was the march for
Rosh Hodesh Adar (the beginning of the new month). The marchers stopped at
each of the ancient gates of the Temple Mount and prayed the Rosh Hodesh
prayers which are connected to the Temple and the worship in the Temple. It
was an exciting renewal of a very old Biblical tradition when the
Israelites came to the Temple to celebrate the Rosh Hodesh holiday and to
make the special sacrifice of Rosh Hodesh according to the Word of G-d
(Numbers 10.10, 28.11-15). Rabbi Dudkevitch of Yitzhar emphasized that many
national troubles stemmed in the past from the fact that the people were
not sufficiently concerned about the Holy Temple. In addition, "If we want
to sustain our sovereignty in this Land, the very first place we must do
this is here, at this site. We must ask ourselves how is it that we have
lost our hold over Joseph's Tomb and other holy areas in the country? The
answer lies in the fact that we concentrated on individual goals, even in
terms of settlement in other parts of the Land, but without giving
sufficient attention to G-d's House".

MK (National Religious Party) Rabbi Yitzhak Levy on Wednesday visited the
Chai Vekaiyam organization now in its second week of a protest vigil
outside Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's Shikmim farmhouse in the Negev. The
High Court of Justice approved the vigil that includes a caravan and large
billboard, "Ariel Open the Temple Mount to the Jewish People" for a
two-week period. The effort is being led by Chai Vekaiyam leader Yehuda
Etzion. Levy added that ongoing efforts by the Waqf Islamic Authority to
eradicate any trace of Judaism's past from the Mount, accompanied by the
government's refusal to permit Jews on the Mount, would never erase the
holiness and significance of the site.

:: PA/PLO INCLUDED IN "AXIS OF EVIL"?: Wednesday while speaking to
reporters, White House Spokesman Ari Fleischer grouped the Palestinian
Authority (PA/PLO) together with other "regimes of terrorism." He included
the PA/PLO as part of the "axis of evil" that invites and practices
terrorism. Fleischer made his remarks in response to a question about what
steps the US was taking to address "cultural tensions that help breed
terrorism." He went on to say that the US is concerned with the lack of
hope among those living under terrorist leadership, including those in
Arafat's PA/PLO. A spokesman in the American Embassy in Tel Aviv declined
to comment on the matter.

:: ARAFAT: SHIPMENT IS MY FAULT, BUT ISRAEL DID IT: US Secretary of State
Colin Powell told Congress that PLO leader Yasser Arafat accepted
responsibility as chairman of the PA/PLO for an attempt to smuggle in 50
tons of weapons from Iran. Powell said Wednesday, however, that Arafat has
not accepted personal responsibility for the operation. Arafat has denied
all knowledge of the shipment but "arrested" PA/PLO figures suspected of
links to the smuggling attempt.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Lebanon's AN-NAHAR daily published on
Tuesday, Arafat accused Israel of trying to destroy his ties with
Washington by orchestrating the attempt to smuggle in 50 tons of weapons
from Iran. Arafat offered no evidence to back his charge. Both Iran and
Hizb'Allah have denied any links to the ship. A senior Palestinian official
said Sunday that Arafat had written to Secretary of State Colin Powell to
assure that there are no Palestinian military ties to Iran and promise to
punish those responsible for the arms shipment.

:: ARAFAT, RAJOUB AT ODDS OVER CONTROL OF PALESTINIAN PEOPLE: PLO leader
Arafat lashed out Monday night against the head of preventive security in
Yesha (Judea, Samaria, and Gaza), Jibril Rajoub, after hearing that
Rajoub's forces failed to resist a mob that overran the PA/PLO prison in
Hebron, releasing 17 Islamic terrorists, HA'ARETZ reported. According to
the JERUSALEM POST, Arafat became enraged when Rajoub suggested that he
could no longer control his people. Arafat was also furious that Rajoub
told reporters that he would order Fatah's Aksa Martyrs' Brigades to lay
down their weapons. According a report in HATZOFEH, intelligence officials
with sources in Arafat's office claim that the story of the Rajoub-Arafat
confrontation was a fabrication, intended for the benefit of the US
administration. The sources claim that Arafat leaked the story to press as
a way of proving his dedication to curbing violence.

:: PALESTINIANS BEGIN LAUNCHING ROCKETS: Early Sunday, Palestinians
launched Kassam-2 type rockets on Israel. This is the first time that such
rockets were launched at any Israeli target. The rockets were launched from
PLO-occupied area in Gaza, just south of Beit Hanoun and landed at two
sites within the "Green Line". One of the rockets landed at Kibbutz Saad,
at a distance of just under 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) from the launch site
and another at Moshav Shuva, about seven kilometers (4.4 miles) away. This
is a range attainable only by a rocket, and not a mortar shell. The rocket
which landed at Saad penetrated a hole 2-3 meters deep, and carried an
explosive head containing 6 to 10 kilograms (13-22 pounds) of explosive
material. Here again the depth of penetration and the amount of explosives
are characteristic of rockets. Three rocket launchers were found south of
Beit Hanoun by Israeli forces, all of them with timing devices for
launching the rocket. The range of the Kassam-2 rocket, which is
approximately 5 to 8 kilometers (3-5 miles), could reach any point in the
city of Sderot if fired from the northern Gaza Strip. If fired from Yesha,
such rockets could hit many cities within Israel. The rockets are products
of terrorist globalization. They are a locally produced adaptation of North
Korean rockets, which Lebanon's Hizb'Allah acquired from Syrian soldiers in
Lebanon and then passed on to Hamas, according to the JERUSALEM POST. The
rockets were then smuggled into the Gaza Strip, where Hamas engineers began
duplicating them.

In keeping with a decision by the security cabinet to "respond sharply" to
the PA/PLO terrorism while not causing the PA/PLO "irreversible damage,"
Israel's armed forces attacked several specific key targets in Gaza and
Shechem. In the end, however, the military response was not qualitatively
different than other reactions in the past. Defense Minister Binyamin
Ben-Eliezer issued his sternest warnings yet to the Palestinians regarding
Kassam-2 rockets. He said he may send troops to retake some Palestinian
areas for extended periods if Palestinian militants fire more Kassam-2
rockets at Israel.

Meanwhile, US State Department spokesman Richard Boucher expressed "deep
concern" over Israel's strikes against targets in heavily populated
PLO-occupied sections of Gaza. Boucher stated, "Though we understand the
need for Israel to take steps to ensure its self-defense, we are seriously
concerned about Israeli attacks over the past several days on Palestinian
Authority facilities, particularly in areas that are heavily populated by
civilians. We are especially concerned by attacks on or near Palestinian
prison facilities, reported releases of prisoners detained in those areas,
and reports a United Nations facility was struck, with possibly a UN
official wounded. Attacks such as these are counter-productive to efforts
to reduce the violence and restore calm."

:: LEBANON HEARS CASE AGAINST SHARON: A Lebanese court will begin hearing
evidence on Wednesday presented by 21 Palestinian survivors of a 1982
massacre in Beirut, in a case brought against Israeli Prime Minister Ariel
Sharon and Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres. The lawsuit was filed by
Lebanese lawyer May Khansa, who blames the two leaders for the 1982
massacre of Sabra and Shatila, as well as the abduction and assassination
of leaders of the Shi'ite Hizb'Allah movement in Lebanon. In 1982, Sharon
was minister of defence and the engineer of the invasion of Lebanon. His
troops were in control of west Beirut when Lebanese Christian Phalangist
militias entered the camps of Sabra and Shatila and slaughtered between 800
and 2,000 unarmed civilians. Israel had allowed the Phalange to enter the
camps as part of a plan to transfer authority to the Lebanese. Ironically,
while 300,000 Israelis demonstrated to protest the killings, little or no
reaction occurred in the Arab world.

By contrast, few voices were raised in May 1985 when Muslim terrorists
attacked the Shatila and Burj-el Barajneh Palestinian "refugee" camps,
killing 635 and wounding 2,500. During a two-year battle between the
Syrian-backed Shi'ite Amal and the PLO terrorist organizations, more than
2,000 people, including many civilians, were killed. No outcry was directed
at the PLO or the Syrians over the slaughter.

The real question is this: Will May Khansa also pursue charges against
Yassir Arafat and the PLO for their massacre of tens of thousands of
Lebanese during their occupation in that country? Will the US file criminal
charges against Arafat for the murder of hundreds of US citizens? Why
should Israel accept the PLO if their own people do not want them? In 1970,
Jordan expelled the Syrian-backed PLO (aka "Black September"). In 1982, the
"Operation Peace for Galilee" removed the PLO from Lebanon.

:: CANADIAN TIES TO HIZB'ALLAH? According to a growing body of evidence,
there are strong ties between Canada and Hizb'Allah, the Islamic terrorist
organization that calls itself a "resistance force" against Israel but
which Canada and the United States accuse of terrorism. Canadians are
believed to be serving as "resistance fighters" in the armed wing of
Hizb'Allah, and police allege Hizb'Allah has received financing and
equipment from supporters and criminal gangs in Canada. An RCMP
intelligence report suggests high-ranking Hizb'Allah leaders may be driving
around Lebanon in cars stolen in Canada by Middle Eastern organized crime
groups. A police report also suggests auto-theft rings funnel 10% of their
profits to the terrorist group.

:: MSNBC DECLARES STATE OF PALESTINE: MSNBC has declared the state of
Palestine on its online Arabic-language portal, while leaving off Israel
from its list of nations. WorldNetDaily had its Arabic translator check out
the site after a reader raised an objection to the inclusion of the
non-existent state. The translator confirms that MSNBC.com's Arabic version
includes "Palestine" in a list of 19 countries on the side of the site
under the heading "Local Arab News". The translator describes these country
headings as links to pages containing story headlines. When questioned
about the "Palestine" reference, Cherylynne Crowther, vice president of
marketing and communications for MSNBC.com, explained she didn't have
access to a translation of the "navigational decisions of the site" and
couldn't verify whether WND's "characterization of it is correct or not".

:: HAMAS RECEIVES FUNDING FROM EUROPEAN CHARITY GROUPS: US and Israeli
officials say the Palestinian terror organization Hamas, which lost a key
funding source in the US recently when the US shut down a Texas-based
Islamic charity called the Holy Land Foundation, has many European outposts
to fall back on. Despite the US action in December and a long lobbying
campaign by Israel, charity groups with alleged links to Hamas operate
openly in London, Paris, Brussels and several other European cities. The
groups staunchly deny they support Hamas, and European governments have
shied from moving against them. Israel says that funds from these groups
are used to pay annuities to the families of Hamas suicide bombers. The
groups say they help Palestinian widows and orphans without regard to
political background.
