A special concert with Mirah and The Weeds, benefiting the Jewish Dialogue Group!

Featuring:
Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn -- an internationally known and beloved indie rock musician (with a bit of klezmer and jazz and Argentina and other things). Born here in Philadelphia in 1974, Mirah has released 5 albums and toured all over the world.

The Weeds -- rock-poems-sounds & songs, with Emily Ana Zeitlyn and Sunday Livingston

Suggested donation: $8 to $18 per person, more if you can afford it. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

This concert will benefit the Jewish Dialogue Group, a non-partisan, grassroots organization founded in Philadelphia in 2001 to promote constructive dialogue within Jewish communities about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The JDG offers structured, facilitated dialogue programs of many different kinds in synagogues, schools, and other venues throughout the Philadelphia area. These programs help people to talk with each other across political differences in constructive ways and to sort through their feelings, ideas, questions, and dilemmas. The JDG also provides resources that help Jews around the country to conduct dialogue programs of their own.

More information: http://www.jewishdialogue.org, [EMAIL PROTECTED], 215-266-1218.

Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn was born on September 17, 1974 at her parents then home on Westview Sreet in Philadelphia. The youngest of three, Mirah grew up mostly in Bala Cynwyd.

In her waning teen years, Mirah moved to Olympia, Washington to attend The Evergreen State College and found herself, four funny years later, with a diploma in her hands and a festoon of flowers about her neck. Continuing to reside in Olympia following graduation, she began making music by default, teaching herself to play guitar and composing 'songs', releasing her first album Storageland on yoyo Recordings in 1997. Proudly joining the K record label in 1999, she began to experiment with recording, producing some material by herself and also working with her close friend and favorite person to record with ever, Phil Elvrum. Several fantastic albums, "You Think It's Like This But Really It's Like This" (K Records), "Advisory Committee" (K Records), "Cold, Cold Water," & "Songs from the Black Mountain Music Project" have since been released by Mirah on K. In March of 2004, her mostly covers collaboration with the Black Cat Orchestra from Seattle, entitled "To All We Stretch th
e Open Arm," was released on yoyo recordings (http://www.yoyoagogo.com). Her newest release, câmon Miracle, was released on K in May of 2004.

Philadelphia native Emily Ana Zeitlyn fashioned The Weeds out of a pile of overgrown vines: a constantly evolving group of sounds and words volleying between spare rock drama and trickling melodies. The songs are little movies filled with word pictures and up close character studies. Joining Emily is super-fun drummer Sunday Livingston aka Bobby Wolter. The Weeds have recently completed a new album and have gallivanted around North America sharing the bill with inspiring folks like The Microphones, Mirah, Karl Blau, Tigersaw and Birdie Busch.

This Valentine's Day weekend, The Cabal, The Rare Bird Show, and Lunchlady Doris, Philadelphia's finest longform improv groups, perform together for the FIRST time!

Longform Improvisation is based on ideas and philosophies developed by actor/director/writer/teacher Del Close. Close essentially invented long-form improvisation as we know it. Similar to the short-form improv you've seen on "Whose Line Is It Anyway?", longform improv relies on one audience suggestion, and nothing else, to create instant comedy via a completely improvised comedy show. This event is hosted by The Cabal, and features The Rare Bird Show, and LunchLady Doris.
http://parentheticalnote.com/thecabal/
http://www.rarebirdshow.com
http://www.geocities.com/lunchladydoris_improv/

Each group performs in and around the Philadelphia area. In addition to Philadelphia, these groups have performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York, Los Angeles, New Jersey, and Pittsburgh.

Credits include appearances on television, film, radio, and on the web. The 2004 Philadelphia Fringe Festival was home to all three groups at such diverse venues as Pierre's Costumes, O'Neals Pub, and The Philadelphia Ethical Society.

This is an opportunity for audiences to experience highly-skilled longform improv here in Philadelphia - New York quality with a local commute. This event features local talent, further advancing the Philadelphia improv community! Watch the freshest faces in the area turn your suggestion into a montage of hilarious scenes that connect in the most surprising ways.

The Grassroots Artists MovEment (G.A.ME) Presents

Raheem from Random Beats

Leftly from Plead the Fifth

Paradocs
Halim
Versus

"The Grassroots Artists MovEment (G.A.ME) was spawned with the need to consolidate power with the Hip-Hop community by building a HIP-HOP UNION . At the same time the need for empowerment is prevalent within the Black and Brown community. The two groups correlate in various ways. Although HEALTHCARE  is lacking throughout the U.S., Black and Brown people find it more difficult to access quality healthcare in their own community at a disproportionate rate to Whites; and most artists do not have healthcare because the music industry has a policy of not insuring artists. Hip-Hop was created by both the Black and Brown community. It makes sense for G.A.ME to unionize artists and organize the community to utilize the rich resources of Hip-Hop culturally and financially to improve our livelihood. That's our goal!

The name Grassroots Artists MovEment (G.A.ME) has become an anomaly since we go beyond empowering the artist community. G.A.ME organizes youth and the Hip-Hop community to prevent juvenile detention and jail recidivism and raise youth leadership to a higher level. A main objective of G.A.ME is making healthcare accessible to the poor working class community in urgent need. Visit a G.A.ME Local closest to you or contact us about becoming a leader in your community."
