The Kollel replies:
The author's name was Rav Yisachar Ber ben Rav Yisrael Leizer Parnas
of Ailenburg (Poland), a student of the Levush and the SM'A. His
monumental work, in which he provides a "Tosfos" commentary for 6
Masechtos or parts thereof that lack it, was first published in 1614.
He is cited extensively by such Torah giants from the subsequent
generation as Rebbi Akiva Eiger. His other monumental work was the
Tzeidah la'Derech, a commentary on Rashi's glosses to the Chumash.
Although he was chosen to head the rabbinate of Tzfat in his later
years, he was Niftar before he arrived there.
