Explain Something to me..........

Hi,
   I've been using PERL and especially the DBI module for Oracle and now 
recently MySQL. I'm having trouble with getting DBD::MySQL in compiled form to 
work from Windows/XP. I really (being honest here) resent having to install the 
"binary" form of PERL from Active State yet I've tried and they don't certify 
their PERL against MySQL. What gives. Can someone point me to  a site where 
they've got PERL (5.6.* +) to work with MySQL or tell me don't do it?
