After analysis, it seems the 'yaboot' boot loader is completely missing from the CD: the 'install' directory where it should be contains only initrd.gz & vmlinux. NB: there is the same issue with the 8.11 'jessie' release. The latest stable release that had a correct yaboot installed in its installation CD for ppc64el was 7.11 'wheezy' (which I could install without problems).
