Yeah you're correct it looks for gcab executable, not library. 
Configure was borking for me without the executable in the path, I'm not
sure why that wasn't happening for you.

Yeah, what I'm really looking for is getting into firmware support in
gnome software.  It's probably dependent on fwupd getting in Debian
still though which danjared was working on.
