Emacs 26.1 just landed into Debian/unstable and it breaks GNUS reading local e-mail with the '(file)' method because the movemail configuration changed in 26.1 as explained in the NEWS: > ** The new option 'configure --with-mailutils' causes Emacs to rely on > GNU Mailutils to retrieve email. It is recommended, and is the > default if GNU Mailutils is installed This problem seems to have been already discussed last June in http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.gnus.general/88065 but it seems difficult to access this information right now in Gmane. Since emacs-bin-common depends already on mailutils, configure Emacs with 'configure --with-mailutils' should probably fix the problem.
