Bug#678340: gnome-packagekit: Update information is not refreshed

I can confirm that this bug was fixed for me by installing
apt-config-auto-update (I am on Xfce).

The gnome-packagekit package should probably depend on/recommend
gnome-settings-daemon |apt-config-auto-update so that it works
out-of-the-box.
