Now I cannot make it happen either. It happened only once in our production
system, so I have no idea what exactly was entered there.
I will add some extra logging in case it happens again. We've been using it as
is for more than six months, and as I said it happened only once, so maybe it
will take some time. Maybe we should close this one, and reopen it once I have
more details?

could you please give an example of how you're using the module?
I can't reproduce a "Wide character in print" with any obvious way
of using utf8.
I am able to mail utf8 OK, for example by giving an UTF-8 string as the
'Data' argument to MIME::Lite->new().
