Severity: important

I suspect there is broader problem in some GUI libraries of Debian Etch, however cannot find out, what -my experience with X and GNOME is not so deep.

Today I'm trying to run totally different program, the Lingea dictionary based on Lexicon 2002. It is commercial software, well-known dictionary and lexicon, that offers Linux port too.

I found out, that this software has also problems with displaying diacritical symbols! Menu items are also invisible! However, it works perfectly under Sarge!

It seems for me, that both Audacity and the Lingea make usage of some GUI functions that are corrupted in current versions of GUI libraries so that they don't display the whole text if any diacritical symbol is found inside.

I cannot say for sure, however this could also have security impact. Since there is probably a bug in strings processing, it comes to question, whether is this buffer-overflow-exploitable.

I will provide any necessarry assistance that I'm able of.

Sincerely
Peter
