What I tried which didn't help: * Changing APT::Cache-Limit from 22582912 to 225829120 and even 2258291200 * Deleting /var/lib/apt/lists/http.us.debian.org_debian_dists_testing_main_i18n_Translation-de What I tried which did help: * "LANG=C apt-get update" * removing some sources (stable) from my list You might be able to reproduce the problem with "LANG=de_DE apt-get update" BTW, the message "Toll, Sie haben die Anzahl an Beschreibungen überschritten, die APT handhaben kann." roughly translates to: "Great, you exceeded the number of descriptions APT can handle."
