Fantastic detective work, thanks Michael! I would never have thought of looking at splashy. Once I've purged splashy (dpkg -P), dbus, hal and everything else complete their upgrades just fine. Bloody splashy never even worked anyway. Looks like I'm better off without it. Thanks again Michael.
