Sure, sorry for the harsh tone. But please understand that I can imagine spending my morning more funny than having to download and burn a Knoppix CD and chroot into my harddisk to fix the package that I just wanted to try out - and then see that the issue I encountered is already known for several weeks.
there's more to it than you think. the themes, syslinux, and live-* needs to be in sync, and release team doesn't like intermediate uploads that change to much unrelated stuff.
Alright, so what's the plan? This bug is really severe, so maybe you could just disable the automatic setting of EXTLINUX_THEME in /e/d/extlinux?
