I don't know if it is related, but the hang ocurs to me when
launching Iceweasel from Icedove.
So, if I start the computer, open Icedove, then click on a link in
an email, Iceweasel opens showing the link, but browsing with that
instance gives the hangs.
If I instead start Icedove, then manually start Iceweasel and then
open a link from Icedove, it opens a new tab in Iceaweasel for that link
but I can browse any site without hangs.
I don't know how Icedove launches the browser but something is
doing that gnome-shell doesn't do.
Maybe this can provide some insight on the problem.
To the people having the hangs: please, open an XTerm of your
choice (gnome-terminal, kterm, etc.) and start "iceweasel" from there
(make sure there is not already a firefox-bin process running already)
and test from there (don't close the xterm), then please tell us if the
hangs still occur or are solved using that method.

I want to confirm this issue. I never had it until I got Iceweasel 8.0.
Since that version I have this. It seems to happen mostly with sites
that use plugins like Flash or the Google Talk plugin. When it happens,
I always see some defunct "plugin-container" process running.
With Iceweasel 8, it helped to simply restart the browser and this were
solved. With 9, this workaround doesn't work anymore in most cases
(sometimes it does). I either have problems on most sites, or none at
all (so, with Iceweasel 8, after restarting, all problems were gone).
