I upgraded grub and mdadm this afternoon, and whilst the process appeared
successful,
after rebooting the system would not come up - my mirrored root device was seemingly
gone.
Attempting to start it from the mdadm included in my initrd failed, claiming that
there is no raid on /dev/hda1 nor /dev/hdb1 (where md0 lives). It did however happily
start my raid5 array on /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1 (md1 - lvm host).
Lacking any other initrd images to work from, I booted up to a partedmagic live
cd,
which using a 2.x version of mdadm, happily assembled my raid1 array. Once
mounted, I
noticed a backup initrd image in my /boot directory, which when used in place
of the
generated one, brought the system right up. mdadm 3 is happily working with my
raid1
array now the system has booted.
It's been a fraught afternoon - this was my internet router...so I've been
reading
this bug report on my mobile phone as a reference as I had no other access!

Is it all in the initrd? Ie, is it complete initrd listing you provided?
This listing lacks the best part of it, namely the main thing, including
the /init script, basic executables and libraries.
