Hi Andreas,

First, I think you copied the wrong URL, it should have been
http://bugs.debian.org/397835 instead of http://bugs.debian.org/397853
Thankfully, the bug id was in the CC list.

Anyways, I was first surprised by what you said, but I still took the time to
check.
I think this bug report is invalid because I can now confirm to you that none
of the images are taken from the official
client. We did have in an old version (2 or 3 years old) some pixmaps from msn,
but then we completely removed them in order
to avoid any legal infrigement.

I wasn't able to find the *.xpm files mentioned in the bug report, there are
some xbm files though, and they were done by
someone from the team. the xbm format is a linux image format and cannot have
been copied from the windows msn client.
This also is true for all the png images as well as sounds. The images were
created using InkScape by our graphics artist. The
sounds were played on a guitar and recorded by a friend of Alvaro, the project
owner.

Here is a screenshot showing you the soccer and rubber duck display pictures
from amsn and from the official windows live
messenger client : http://www.amsn-project.net/~kakaroto/display_pics.jpg
The images on the left are from the microsoft product while the images on the
right are from aMSN. As you can see they look
alike and can be confusing but they are not the same images at all.
Actually, I noticed a few cases where our graphic artist designed an image and
that we later found out that it ressembles the
official client's image, those are pure coincidences.

I hope this answers your questions.

If you have any other question, don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you,
KaKaRoTo
