I have a stronger notion of this, as I've just seen too many new shiny
things coming up and vanishing again, think ISDN oder digital cameras:
Today's "modern" is tomorrow's "outdated".

So if I see people using the term "modern" to justify their decision, I
rather think they do not have any better argument. And consider their
point moot.
