I too have looked through the emacs sources, the installed files under /usr/share/emacs*, my .emacs and /etc/emacs* and I can see no trace of this, but when I hit C-x C-f on startup, it defaults to ~/Documents. I still can't find where this is set. Ah, I now think I have it. KDE4 must default to its CWD being ~/Documents (yuck, I really don't want that directory!), and by default emacs will use the CWD as the default path. Regards, Roger -- .''`.
