I strongly recommend 3.0 kernel for Intel Sandybridge for various reasons 
including a strange lockup bug that was discussed on linux thinkpad 
mailing list apparently has been fixed since then.

And then the new Sandybridge Acceleration Architecture which easily 
doubles FreeDroid RPG framerate with Full HD display from 30 to 60 fps is 
only in 3.0.
