Yes they could lack it, but on not the resulting installation from the default debian-live images through the d-i integration at boot time that we have now if there is only the filesystem.squashfs on /live in the boot media (the default). It will happen only if the user will use stackable fses ("snapshots" saved back in the r-o media at /live) or will install from the live running system, which is not yet supported, although it is planned. This because snapshots and the runtime system will not have those links in place as you correctly guessed. My solution to just touch the /fastboot file seems to avoid all these problems; and seems to be also future-proof, regarding a subsets of future init system problems, so if there is not a real reason, I think we should just touch that file and do not remove any init script in that case. (reverting what live-initramfs does for checkroot.sh). Anyway, checkfs.sh just checks fstab devices, so why disabling it? I had a use-case in mind for that, like using debian-live with a custom /home on HD, with a real fstab, so a bootparameter to re-enable fschecking could be provided. Daniel, could I? -- ESC:wq
