debian-project is probably not the best place to ask these questions,
debian-user would be a better place:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/

But to help you out, I had the same problem when installing Debian
Unstable on my new Intel P35 motherboard.

The SATA controller was not supported by the kernel version in the
current stable Debian Installer.

I got it working with the backported Debian Installer by Kenshi Muto:
http://kmuto.jp/debian/d-i/

And with one of the more current daily builds of the Debian Installer from:
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/

You could try one of these to see of the newer kernels in these Debian
Installer builds include support for your SATA controllers chipset (to
which your Seagate SATA HDD is connected).

Regards,

Bas
