I'm hereby taking DEP number 8 to standardize (and advertise) automatic
as-installed package testing, currently implemented by the
"autokpkgtest" package. The first paragraph of DEP8 with the needed
meta-information is as follows:

Title: autopkgtest - automatic as-installed package testing
  DEP: 8
  State: DRAFT
  Date: 2011-02-25
  Drivers: Ian Jackson <ijack...@chiark.greenend.org.uk>,
   Iustin Pop <ius...@debian.org>,
   Stefano Zacchiroli <z...@debian.org>
  URL: http://dep.debian.net/deps/dep8
  License:
Copying and distribution of this file, with or without modification,
are permitted in any medium without royalty provided the copyright
notice and this notice are preserved.
  Abstract:
Establish a standard interface to define and run "as-installed" tests of
packages, i.e. the testing of packages in a context as close as possible
to a Debian system where the packages subject to testing are properly
   installed.

The draft will be available soon at the URL reported above and we kept
up to date there. Discussion will happen on debian-devel@lists.d.o.
Messages will be tagged with the [DEP8] label in their subject. A first
draft will be posted to -devel shortly.

The 3 drivers reported above are a bit short of time, so help is still
welcome if you'd like to help with bookkeeping during the
discussion. Contact me off-list to that end.

On behalf of the drivers,
