Here's what I'd do - install the ash from hamm, then do:
ln -sf ash /bin/sh
Then, edit your /etc/passwd file (with vi, probably) and change the
top line so that it contains '/bin/ash' instead of '/bin/bash' - root
should now be able to log in, at least.
