I had this same problem except I was running the command # tail -vf /var/log/messages > /dev/ttyp2 which worked for the most part, except the line feeds/carrage returns got screwed. To fix that problem I removed the getty program from ttyp2 and just let it sit idle by itself. I would just say to edit /etc/inittab and stop the getty prog where its on that tty port. If there is none, try this out.
