Peter, Last I checked (a few years ago) this problem is due to licenseing issues. something happened, and those packages were removed from the debian repository. You can look for them from a third-party repository such as backports.org or apt-get.org.
Once you find a suitable repository, simply edit your /etc/apt/sources.list file with the new repository info, run "apt-get update" then "apt-get install gaim" and you should be all good. +matt On Sat, 14 Jan 2006 19:43:12 -0800 (PST), "Peter Bayliss" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> said: > I have just installed Debian 3.1 and everythign seems > to be working > great. however, Gaim was not installed and when i try > to do in using the Synaptic Package Manager, it fails > and tells me that "libao2 >=0.8.6" and "libgtkspell0 > >=2.0.2 are needed but uninstallable! > > how do i go about fixing this?
