annoying beeping speaker

You know that annoying little speaker in the computer that goes beep everytime 
you hit the wrong key.

Well, mine didn't work for years.
I just did a -testing upgrade and now it works.

How do I make it stop without opening the case and removing the speaker?
It's really annoying.
