Thanks for the thoughts and advice. I agree about learning to use man pages, and I use them whenever possible, and also look for any installed docs, but I still think a list of common post-installation tasks would be handy.
I'm going to do a couple of installs next week and will try to compile a list, or build off of David Martin's Ubuntu how-to.
