I think the "problem" arises when someone installs a gnome metapackage, 
that can trigger lots of (and unforeseen) packages and (unwanted) 
dependencies (it  hapenned to me in wheezy not so long ago with 
"tracker"). 

I did remove the involved gnome metapackages ("gnome" and "gnome-desktop-
environment") and I can breathe free again. Not sure if that will work 
for Evo, though.
