My error. I meant icedove not iceweasel and I am using Wheezy. The
center wheel nor the shift+insert work for icedove. (See subject change)

Are you using squeeze or wheezy? in wheezy, both middle-mouse-click and
shift+insert seems to work!
i could never get shift+insert working in squeeze...
