Curious. And what shell do they set now for users with uid < 100? I've checked more-or-less fresh testing with systemd, and it says to me: # getent passwd nobody nobody:x:65534:65534:nobody:/nonexistent:/bin/sh Anyway, changing nobody's shell to /bin/sh is worth trying IMO. /usr/sbin/nologin as a shell is the RedHat way, not a Debian one.
