That in the past has been quite a dog chasing his own tail scene, but 
I'll be dipped, I removed the 2 bison packages installed,  downloaded 
the tarball of 2.6.1 from gnu.org, unpacked it,  issued a

./configure && make && sudo make install

and got a home run 

So the same command line is slowly building qucs, so far no surprises. 
But it WILL be a while, that tarball is 45 megabytes.  Other than 
building kde, using konstruct once quite a few years ago, I do not 
recall building anything with that big a tarball in one gz'd piece.
I should have wrapped in it a timer. Hindsight, 20-05 everytime. :)
