They feel that man pages make poor user manuals. And they don't want
to have redundant information (a man page as a reference sheet and a
user manual to learn how to use the app).

If you make an application I suggest you have a small man page in
any case. Then write the documentation in any format that will let
you convert it to the following formats:
o plain text
o html
o ps
o pdf

Info allows you to do that, but many other formats (arguably better)
can also do that.
